Role of Urban Governance in Managing Underground Parking & Subways at Sector-17, Chandigarh

Parking is central to urban livelihood. It is an expensive source in almost all the cities in the world because of its limited availability. Parking and subway availability is an important determinant of whether people prefer to use a particular destination. Parking controls and pricing are rarely popular with the public. Subways ensure that people are easily connected to the buildings. It can be integrated with comprehensive forms of access. Effective parking and subways management reduce the search for parking, increase safety for pedestrian commuters, increase road safety and support the local economy. If there is a parking shortage then people may accept that there is a need for parking controls. Chandigarh city is taken as a case example in this research paper. This paper reviews the planning and management problems of the existing underground parking and subways in Sector-17 Chandigarh.
