The buildings which are constructed with the on-going development and growth of our society are responsible for the consumption of various natural resources. for practicing buildings design, construction, and usage for sustainability some sustainability assessment methods, tools, and techniques that guide and check for pre-design and post-design scenarios are required to see the impact of materials used and the design of a building on the environment. GRIHA and LEED are the two sustainability assessment tools mainly used in India. These rating systems set benchmarks for the pre-construction, on-going construction, and post-construction for a building. The paper mainly focus on the study of green rating systems LEED and GRIHA and it also analyses and compare them in various aspects like the performance criteria’s, their environmental impacts, etc. it will provide a clear understanding of their evaluation method. Their strength, weakness, similarities, and differences are also determined.
