Abstract

In recent decades, walkability has been increasingly recognized as a central element of sustainable urban living. Therefore, the establishment of a pedestrian-friendly environment is a necessary need for urban planning projects due to its environmental, social, and economic health importance to humans and society. For the purpose of transforming the urban environment into a pedestrian-friendly environment, planning strategies must be known. The research aims to review existing literature on the elements of a physical environment that supports pedestrians, because there is a strong relationship between walking behavior and the physical environment in which people live, starting from the urban form to the various design elements that support sustainable behaviors in society.
