Abstract

Flocculation process is an important unit of water treatment plant and more often fitted with mechanical stirrer or vanes. The problem related with maintenance and running of mechanical components are crucial. It is therefore requisite to explore other simpler devices free from such restraint and methodical in turbidity removal. Jet flocculator seems one of the effectual solutions as it does not have any moving parts inside the reactor. The jet velocity, diameter, its configuration etc. have been used in the development of the mixing by experimental estimations. The present investigation is the attempt to study the effect various parametrical variables such as nozzle diameter, angle of inclination, flow pattern and jet position on velocity gradient considering square tank. Mathematical modeling has been carried out to fix-up the head, nozzle diameter and dimensions of chamber.
