Study of Water Quality of Panchganga River Water at Kolhapur (Maharashtra)

River water contamination by the human activities as well as addition of waste disposal, industrial effluents and agricultural run-off is one of the serious issues now. Hence, to know the status of river water quality, assessment of river water quality was essential. The analysis of Panchganga river water at Kolhapur was done in the period of January 2018-December 2018. The analysis was carried out for various parameters like pH, DO, BOD, COD, Chlorides, Sulphate, Calcium, Magnesium and Hardness, etc. The obtained results were compared with WHO and ICMR values. It was observed that, pH was having slightly alkaline in summer season but rests of the parameters were within the limit. But continuous monitoring is essential to maintain the water quality.
