In this work, a literature review is conducted to demonstrate the occurrence of floods in the Indian region as well worldwide due to undulated terrain, climatic changes, and topography. For this flood hazard mapping is performed which demonstrates the frequency of flood, the intensity of flood, and also the areas which are likely to be affected by floods. The main geographical reason is that the continents are surrounded by about 70 percent water of the lower pressure, heavy rain occurs in some coastal locations, but this is not an issue. The issue is that due to high rainfall, water collects in the plain of topography; the return duration and the flood level of the rivers are calculated in this research using the flood hazard mapping. The data from the local government department is collected then which in turn tells us about how frequent are floods in that area due to the rivers. These collected data are then used in fed into the flood hazard models which further find out the corresponding flood level in the different return periods. Flood management in the world is good, but the implementation and policies aren’t up to the mark. The main motive of this literature review is to give knowledge about flood management to the researchers, engineers, intellects, and all the authorities, and decisions makers to take the best suitable decisions for flood management.
