Comparative Study of Distillery Effluents in and Around Distilleries

Due to large industrial growth the local environment will have the adverse effect if attention
is not paid. Distillery waste water is one of the major environmental pollution, when
discharge into water bodies without a treatment will effect on soil, water, air, health of
animals and humans. Such water have dissolved impurities like sulphate, Magnesium, Iron,
Sodium & Potassium and colloidal impurities like colouring matter, organic waste. In our
study we have compared the Gemini distillery where the problem of ground water pollution
has occurred with the Bangalore distillery and ground water condition within 1km radius
around it. It has found that the TDS content in the effluents is more. Hence, we suggest Deionization
process for the control of TDS and prevent such problems.
