Abstract

Population growth and climatic instability are putting increasing pressure on water
resources, and promoting increased interest in the treatment of domestic wastewater as an
alternate source .Water is the basic necessity for the existence of human society. Water has
been recognized as the cardinal element of nature and has been worshipped as the life giving
and life sustaining medium in ancient and modern religions of the world. Tamil Nadu is one
of the water starving states of India, where the exterior water potential has been fully tapped
.Now-a-days there is an increasing pressure on ground water exploitation. Without proper
planning Superfluous generalization of water for domestic, industrial supply and agricultural
area are used and priorities will adversely affect the surface water. Treatment of domestic
wastewater reserve special consideration because it is produced in large quantities. In this
study the treatment of domestic wastewater was performed in a 15 L ABR as pretreatment
and duckweed pond for post treatment can purify the water and this water can be used for
agricultural purpose.
