Spectrophotometric Analysis of Heavy Metals and Non-Metal in Waste Water of Chittagong, Bangladesh
Abstract
For any country industrialization is essential for its economic growth and development. But it must be eco-friendly for the successful and sustainable development of a country and for the safeguard of the environment. This study is performed to determine the level of six common heavy metals like Hg, Ni, Cd, Mn, Cu and Fe but as an non Metals Cl-) from different industries in Chittagong Metropolitan Area, Bangladesh. The level of heavy metals is analyzed by using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS) in outlet and inlet water samples. From investigation, it was found that the range of level of concentration (mg/L) of Hg, Ni, Cd, Mn, Cu and Fe but as a non-Metals Cl-) are not within the limit of Standard value of Department of Environment (DoE), Bangladesh. This is because Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) is not installed by many industries. Though many industries installed Effluent Treatment Plant but they do not run their plant regularly, some of them do not use chemicals properly for treating waste water. So, for the safety of our environment, proper monitoring should be increased by Department of Environment, Bangladesh.
