Background: it is well recognized that patients on mechanical ventilator have difficulty in communication. They are unable to express their feelings and needs through verbal communication because the endotracheal tubes running through their vocal cords make speech impossible, contributing to their frustration and anxiety. Thus, communication is important in order to provide effective nursing care that respond to clients’ needs. While poor communication leads to limitation of an accurate exchange of information between the nurse and patients and perhaps diminishes the probability of treatment Thereby, patients receiving mechanical ventilation have reported communication difficulties as their number one problem. Thus the communication board will help the mechanically ventilated patients to effectively communicate. Objectives of the study: To assess the communication process of patients on mechanical ventilator. To evaluate the effectiveness of communication board on communication process of mechanically ventilated patients. To find out the association between the pre-test score measurement of communication process and selected demographic variables of mechanically ventilated patients. Method: Conceptual framework of the study was based on Imogene M King’s Theory of Goal attainment. Was applied to the pre -test and post-test, a preexperimental research design was adopted for the present study. The sample consisted of 65 conscious mechanically ventilated patients admitted in intensive care units were selected using convenient non probability sampling technique. Result: The calculated ‘t’( 8.76) value was higher than the table value i.e: (2.58) at 0.01 level of significance thus H1 was accepted. Conclusion: The results of the study demonstrated that was improvement in the communication process with the administration of the communication board to the mechanically ventilated patients
