Effectiveness of Structured Teaching Program on Prevention and Management of Post Burn Problems at Home in Terms of Quality of Life, Knowledge and Expressed Practices among Post Burn Patients: An Evaluative Study

A study to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching program on prevention and management of post burn problems at home in terms of quality of life (QOL), knowledge and expressed practices among post burn patients in Safdarjung Hospital of New Delhi. The conceptual framework of the present study was based on Orem’s self-care model. Research approach adopted for the study was evaluative approach with Pre experimental, one group pre-test and post-test design. The sample consists of the 60 post burn patients. The tools used for the study was structured interview schedule to collect the demographic characteristics, disease specific characteristics and to assess quality of life, knowledge and practices of subjects. The tools and structured teaching program were validated by 9 experts and found to be valid. Reliability of tools was determined by KR 20 for structured knowledge interview schedule and cronbach’s alpha for structured quality of Life and practices assessment scale. The pilot as well as final study was conducted at Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi after obtaining formal administrative approval. The data obtained were organized and analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics according to objectives and hypothesis of the study. The findings of the study revealed that, the mean post-test QOL, knowledge and practice scores were higher than their mean pre-test QOL, knowledge and practice scores. The structured teaching program on prevention and management of post burn problems at home was found to be effective strategies in enhancing the QOL, knowledge and practice of post burn patients.
