Tourism Induced Land Use Change: A Case of Kovalam Beach, Kerala

Abstract

An industry that is mainly focused on natural environment is Tourism. The uncontrolled development of the tourist destination results in environmental degradation and loss of identity and culture. Sustainable Tourism Development approach helps in attaining the needs of the present generation, without compromising the needs of the future generation. Major tourist destinations in Kerala like Kovalam are facing the threat of destruction due to various factors such as increase in building density, environmental degradation and pollution.
