A Review of the Physical Infrastructure of the UNESCO site of Aurangabad, Maharashtra

Various economic activities help in economic development and stability of the country and Tourism is one such sector. In the historical, cultural and heritage sites with increased footfall the lawfulness of the site gets destroyed and such sites pose a real challenge to various tourism authorities. Sustainable Eco tourism is one of the most efficient tools to maintain such sites. India is one of the preferred destinations due to its culture, climate, important monuments, Infrastructure facilities etc. As per UNESCO there are 38 heritage sites in India, with four situated in Maharashtra. Aurangabad in Maharashtra has two amongst these, Ajanta and Ellora which attract tourists across the globe but are suffer from lack of technology, potable water, shortage of power etc. which makes it difficult to manage the sites. Provision of better facilities at these tourist sites with respect to physical and environmental aspects using technology and modern strategies will help to protect these heritage sites for future generations. Based on the analysis of the parameters, the required infrastructural development measures and sustainable parameters have been identified. The design interventions for the sustainable development of the tourist place in the region will be detailed out in the proposal.
