Evaluating Kolhapur Town's Urban Sprawl Requirement for Municipal Basic Infrastructure

One of really serious hazards to every community is urban sprawl. It functions as a stumbling block to the city's progress. Whenever the town's population is growing, so does the town's need. As a result, the corporation's duty to provide people with all fundamental infrastructural utilities, wastewater, roadways, and transport is expanded. Kolhapur's population has been growing over the last several years due to the town's popularity for ecotourism, information technology, industry, and education. Kolhapur city had a population of 4, 93, 167 in 2001, 5, 49, 236 in 2011, and 6, 07, 123 in 2019. According to the KMC statistical office, the population will have to be 6, 86, 718 in 2031. These essential local infrastructure requirements are the responsibility of Kolhapur Municipal Corporation [KMC]. This article addresses Kolhapur City's expected infrastructure needs during the year 2031 when the city's population is expected to reach 6,86,718 It also discusses the work being done by the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation in these areas. This paper highlights some existing challenges and problems with the basic infrastructure that KMC provides to the citizens of the city, including some suggestions for how to address them. The methodology entails gathering data from the different authorities, followed by field visits, projected requirements calculations, suggestions, proposals, and observation points following discussions with the relevant department officers.
