A Review of Theories of Aging, with Emphasizing the Theory of Disengagement in a Nursing Home

Old age is conventionally synonymous with the age of 65. Aging is a gradual breakdown in the structure and organism of the body, which occurs due to the intervention of time, and causes changes in the structure and function of various organs of the body, such as hair whitening and wrinkles, hair loss. These include vision loss, hearing loss, curvature, slowness of movement, decreased muscle strength, impaired memory and perception, impaired orientation, decreased capacity and efficiency of the lungs, and the cardiovascular system. The theories proposed on aging are: a) Biological theories that are divided into three categories. 1- Immunological theory, 2- Cell aging theory, 3- Free radical theory, b) Psychological theories c) Sociological theories which are divided into four categories. 1- Non-commitment theory, 2- Activity theory, 3- Continuity theory, 4- Interactive theory each of the mentioned theories provides justifications for the aging process and it is important to be aware of them because these theories can be a network of information which Based on practical decisions can be made for the elderly.
