Lack of knowledge towards swine influenza (H1N1) and its prevention is the main hindrance for preventive strategies among students. Keeping this view in mind a pre-experimental study was conducted with the objective of finding the effect of information booklet (IB) on knowledge of swine influenza (H1N1) and its prevention among Higher Secondary students. The conceptual framework adopted for the study was based on General System theory of Ludwig Von Bertalanffy. One group pretest post-test design has been adopted. Consecutive sampling technique was adopted to select 128 students. Data were collected by structured knowledge questionnaire. The study findings showed that in pretest majority of the respondents (68.75%) had poor knowledge, (23.43%) had fair knowledge and (7.81%) had good knowledge regarding swine influenza (H1N1) and its prevention whereas in posttest majority of respondents (67.18%) had Very good knowledge, (25.78%) had excellent knowledge and (7.03%) had poor knowledge. The study revealed that the mean post-test knowledge score (21.80) of students was higher than the mean pre-test knowledge score (11.01) with the mean difference (10.79) which was significant as evident by âtâ value (36.28) for df (127) at 0.001 level of significance. Hence, the study concludes that information booklet was effective in enhancement of knowledge of Higher Secondary School students. The findings also shows that there is no significant association between knowledge of the respondent and selected demographic variables.
