Abstract

The study aims to assess the level of knowledge and attitude regarding the health hazards of junk food among adolescents (13-15 years) in selected areas of Shimla Himachal Pradesh Objectives To assess the pre-test knowledge and attitude score regarding health hazards of junk food among adolescents in experimental and control groups at selected schools of Shimla. To assess the post-test knowledge and attitude score regarding health hazards of junk food among adolescents in the experimental group and control group at selected schools of Shimla.  To compare the pre-test and post-test knowledge and attitude scores regarding health hazards of junk food among adolescents in selected areas of Shimla. To find out the association of knowledge and attitude regarding health hazards of junk food among adolescents with their selected demographic variables. Methodology A quasi-experimental research design in which the sample size will be 60 adolescents (30-experimental group, 30-comparison group) to fulfil the inclusive and exclusive criteria are selected and a purposive sampling technique will be used to select the samples. Frequency and percentage distribution according to socio-demographic variables of adolescents. In the experimental group majority of samples, 67% (20) belong to 13-14 years, 23%(7) belong to 12- 13 years, 10%(3) belong to 11-12 years, 0%(0) belongs to 10-11 years. In the control group majority 43% (13) belong to 13-14 years, 27%(8) belong to 12-13 years, 27%(8) belong to 11-12 years, and 3%(1) belong to 10-11 years. According to gender, in the experimental group, the majority 53% (16) were male adolescents whereas 47%(14) were females. Result Association of pre-test and post-test attitude scores with their selected socio-demographic variables. The finding reveals that there is no significant association between the level of post-test knowledge scores and other demographic variables (age, gender, religion, area of residence, family income, type of family, education of father, education of mother, occupation of father, occupation of mother, dietary pattern, junk food are unhealthy, previous knowledge regarding health hazards of junk food, pocket money per month). The level of post-test attitude score with selected demographic level. There is no significant association between the level of post-test attitude scores and other demographic variables (age, gender, religion, area of residence, family income, type of family, education of father, education of mother, occupation of mother, occupation of father, dietary pattern, junk food are unhealthy, previous knowledge regarding health hazards of junk food, pocket money per month) The calculated chi-square values were less than the table value at the 0.05 level of significance.
