Highway Accident Analysis: A Case Study Dhaka- Faridpur Highway

An accident is a usual occurrence all over the world. It is a sudden incident. Without any warning, it can happen at any time. The
accident rate can never be brought to zero but its damage can be reduced if desired. Finding out the causes and precise number of accidents that occurred on the Dhaka- Faridpur route in the previous five years is the goal of this research. The Faridpur
Highway police provided the information on accidents needed for this project. The Faridpur districts have a 920/km2 population
density, and this road is used by between 30 and 35 thousand people. From the research, it is found that from 2017 to 2021, most of the victims of road accidents are male & the percentage is 76% & 24% female. The multiplicity of victims is between the ages of 31 to 45, with 28% prevalence, there will be a maximum of 64 accidents or 32% of all accidents, in 2020 & 2021, there will be 52
accidents or 26% of accidents occur. Most of the accidents happen in August and account for 78 times or 12% of all accidents. On
average, 139 accidents occur on Saturdays, with a 22% rate, maximum accident happen at the time of 13.00-18.00 & the total number of an accident at that hour is 203. According to the research, driving at a high pace and direct encounters are the leading causes of traffic accidents. The rates are 63% & 25.5%, respectively. The vehicles that cause road accidents most frequently (28% of the time) are buses and motorcycles (20% of the time). Trucks, pick-ups, cars, rickshaws, vans, tractors, and four-wheeler are each responsible for 17%, 7%, 9%, 3%, 3%, 6%, and the other vehicles account for 4% of road accidents. 37% of accidents take place at
night due to poor lighting. Accidents happen throughout the day in about 63% of cases. The government and non-governmental
organizations need to step up to help us out of this dilemma. The number of accidents on the Faridpur-Dhaka route can also be decreased with the aid of the public and increased awareness.
