Addressing transportation problems requires collection of traffic data required to guide in implementing measures that ameliorate the problems. There have been observed high travel times in traversing the central business area of Ado Ekiti. This paper thus report the outcome of a study conducted to determine traffic characteristics of the road segment running across the area. It found the travel speed during peak period to be 16 km/hr and delay to be 47% of travel time. It also found delay during off peak period to be about the same with delay during peak period, being 52% of off-peak travel time. It therefore concludes that the low travel speed results from the installed traffic signals and suggests a review of the operation of the signal to improve traffic performance within the area.
