Road Safety Audit: an Identification of Safety Issues on the Stretch of NH-59A

Abstract

In India around the country the road network is emphasized that is essential for rapid industrialization, urbanization and development of the Nation. Road transport network is most widely used for transport of both passenger and freight movement in India for several years. This fast growing country with population and motorization along with urbanization has made the vulnerable to frequent road accidents resulting in severe injuries, disabilities and even fatalities for people living in. Road traffic safety is a major developmental issue for our country, a public health concern and is leading to cause of death. A key initiation has been reformed by Indian government to save the lives of accident victim peoples during traumatic injury with free treatment and facility to provide fixed money to hit & run cases victims. Purpose of this paper is to prevent the occurrence of any type of accident or to mitigate the severity of possible crash on Indore to Chapda section of NH- 59A, thus to making the road journey safe and comfort for all road users and surroundings. This Audit estimates all potential safety issues by collecting the critical road features and accident statistics to prevent the frequently occurrences of accident or to reduce their severity. After conducting RSA, it is found that selected stretch doesn't have enough space to move crossing vehicles at efficient speed, high speed of moving traffic leads to enormous hazards, no shoulder or lack of shoulders on most of the locations throughout the stretch, vegetation or plantation were there close to the carriageway, transformer/poll shifting is required at suitable locations, No marking and faded marking were seen most of the places.
