Road Accident Analysis: A Case Study Dhaka Metropolitan Area

Abstract

Road accidents are a serious concern in the highway transportation system, resulting in deaths, injuries, and property damage. Dhaka city is the one of Bangladesh's most important cities, with a high rate of traffic accidents. Every year, several individuals die or are badly injured in traffic accidents in Dhaka. This research main objective was discuss about the reasons, classification, and actual number of road accidents in this city. For this research data was collected from DMP. From 2016 to 2020 happened total 1356 accidents and here accident types are found fatal accidents (70.21%), grievous (22.57%), simple (3.91%) and collision (3.32%). Accident severities by junction type are found at not junction 489 accidents and crossroads 129 accidents. Maximum accidents are happened at day 657 (48.45%) and at night with lighting condition 431 (31.78%). As for months and days, the most accident has been in January 165 accidents and Tuesday 208 accident. The most accidents during the day were 10:00am - 11:00am 163 accidents and 12:00pm – 01:00pm 135 accidents.
