Car parking have become one of the most problems facing transport and traffic engineers, due to the lack of clear policies in this field, especially in cities and urban places, and more in the middle of cities, where educational, commercial and health facilities are concentrated, The state of Khartoum, as an urban area and the capital of the country, like other capitals around the world suffers from this problem, as the lack of sufficient spaces and irregular movement leads to a narrow path of vehicles and frequent parking, thus increasing the demand for parking lots and reducing the level of service. In this study, parking spaces in the streets in the central Khartoum region were calculated after collecting field information such as the length of the street, street width, the number of street intersections and the type of traffic control for each intersection, physical obstacles, restricted areas of stopping and general traffic characteristics that govern Main type and number of parking spaces suitable for each street. Forty-seven (47) streets have been chosen to determine the type and number of parking spaces suitable for each street including four streets that have been studied in detail in addition to the engineering design of the parking spaces as a model for the study area which is the municipal street, the Republic Street, the Palace Street and Abdel Moneim Street, this data was analyzed and the appropriate engineering design prepared. Then summarizing the recommendations needed to solve the parking problem as one of the most important methods for traffic management systems in the central Khartoum region.
