Analysis of Existing Conditions of Roads of Rampura in Dhaka City

Abstract

Smooth traffic flow is one of the most important factors for road transport safety. Infrastructural and other development of a region mostly depends on existing facilities of roads and footpaths of that region. Therefore, the aim of this study is to know the existing facilities of road networks of the study area. Traffic and pedestrian data were collected both in weekday and in weekend from 7am to 9 pm. The volume capacity ratio approach was utilized to ascertain the level of Services of roads. Car was the dominating vehicle in the study area among all the traffics and it contains 25.50 % of all vehicles. Influence of bus, motorbike, CNG and microbus was also significant. The evaluation showed that the level of services was highest in Hatirjheel approach and lowest in Airport approach. Pedestrian flow rate was high at the peak hour time only. By evaluating the existing conditions of the study area, it can be concluded that some mitigations measures need to be taken immediately so that traffics and pedestrians move smoothly.
